Lemak Laksa Craze

It wasn't hard to identify and remember us, especially the look of disappointment on our faces when we found out that lemak laksa wasn't available that day. Crap, another all-for-nothing journey just to satisfy our cravings for lemak laksa.

Now we've all known bout the Lemak Laksa in Balik Pulau. And before this, I thought Balik Pulau was THE only place where I can find Lemak Laksa. Now many of us would actually want to drag/speed the car all the way uphill then along the winding road to get a taste of it?

I would.. if petrol is cheaper. Like DOH!


It was after our first hike up Air Itam dam together. We were practically starving, and I meant hungry ghost starve by the time we were done with the hike, of which we also made a detour to visit Kek Lok Si in the process. So so hungry we decided to just settle down in one of the coffee shops at the foothill, grab something to eat and get the hunger over it.

And neither of us expected to experience the best lemak laksa we've ever tasted in our lives. Well, not that we've been around much but really.. listen to me story first.

I don't believe it was the hunger. You know when you're like super hungry, every single food you put into your mouth seems to taste nicer? I thought so too in the beginning but I don't quite believe it.

This lemak laksa that we tried, is less "fishier" than the one in Balik Pulau and it has a little spice in the soup as well. Soup, even tho less "fishier" but it's still thick! The woman was simply very generous with the amount of fish bits she gave us in the soup. It was DEFINITELY HEAVEN.

It was THE most satisfying-after-hiking-lunch ever. We made a pact to go back again, definitely... partly also to prove to myself that it wasn't the hunger that influenced my take on the lemak laksa.


So we went back a few weeks later. Don't have it. It's either the wrong day when the shop is closed or the woman just didn't cook it that day. She said there are a couple of ingredients that she needed to get from Thailand and we will have to wait till school holidays till someone goes to Bangkok to buy the ingredients back for her. -_- like super 'pa pai' and 'kua cheong' (exaggerated) right? Oh well, she's the master, if she said so then.. we'll just have to wait till the next round.

We didn't give up. We tried again and again. Hiked at the same place again for a few times just to get a chance to devour it again.


THREE... 3 out of 8.


8 is the number of times I had been there. 3 is the number of times I get to eat it.


In fact, I had been let down so many times that the woman felt bad to disappoint me, hence she gave me her mobile number to call her before I go. Or even request for her to cook lemak laksa in advance the day before I'm supposed to go. So I went with Erin last Saturday. She was very lucky indeed. I can't get through the woman the day before so we only called her when we were on our way there. And my, were we in luck that day :) Needless to say, she loved it as well! :D So it wasn't the hunger!

We walked out the shop happy, full and contented customers. And this is why I'm blogging bout it now :)
